Bring-your-own vaccine a no-no

People desperate to get a flu shot have been boating, busing, flying and driving to Canada. Now comes the patient who walked into the Snohomish Health District office in Everett with a single dose of the vaccine in a pre-filled syringe she bought in Canada, asking clinic workers to give her the shot.

No can do, health officials say.

“There’s no way we can be sure that’s what it is,” said health officer Dr. M. Ward Hinds, adding that the brand of vaccine had not been authorized for use in the United States.

“I hate to see people going to all that time, trouble and expense and not being able to get anything out of it,” he said.
