If you made an e-mail or phone request to get a flu shot on Monday at the Everett Events Center, and you haven’t heard back, be patient. You will hear by the end of today whether or not you have an appointment.
Workers are making their way through the requests and are trying to contact people as quickly as possible, said Diane Kolb, spokeswoman for Visiting Nurse Services of the Northwest, which is sponsoring the event.
Christmas House gathering up gifts
Christmas House, a nonprofit organization that provides gifts to low-income families and children in Snohomish County, needs donations of toys and gifts.
Volunteers will collect gifts Saturday and Sunday at Haggen Food &Pharmacy and Top Foods stores from Edmonds to Stanwood. They need new, unwrapped toys for infants and children, housewares and gifts for teenagers.
Christmas House will operate Dec. 3-21 at the North Everett Boys &Girls Club.

Chili and chowder on Camano Island
Competition could be fierce. Cayenne or no cayenne. Beef or no beef. Crackers or no crackers.
The Camano Island Chamber of Commerce presents its ninth annual Chili and Chowder Cookoff, “Stirring Up the Masterpiece,” 4-7 p.m. Saturday at the Camano Senior and Community Center, 606 Arrowhead Road.
Sample eight entrees for $7. There will be a raffle and entertainment.
