Anyone interested in the race for state superintendent of public instruction can hear from the candidates themselves at a forum on Thursday.
The race features incumbent Terry Bergeson and former superintendent Judith Billings.
The pair will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Triton Union Building, Room 202, at Edmonds Community College, 20000 68th Ave. W., Lynnwood.
The Edmonds Education Association and Edmonds PTSA Council are sponsoring the event.
Camano Island needs volunteers
A community work party is planned 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at Terry’s Corner on Camano Island.
Volunteers are needed at Freedom Park to weed, remove blackberry bushes and prepare the site for replanting. Bring gloves and gardening tools.
The park entrance and parking area are next to the park-and-ride lot on N. Camano Drive.
Freedom Park, donated to Camano residents to commemorate Pearl Harbor survivors, will also become a backyard wildlife habitat demonstration garden for the Camano Wildlife Habitat Project, as well as a sculpture garden.
Anyone out there collect pop tops?
An Everett reader who drinks a lot of pop has collected 21/2 pounds of aluminum pop tops.
Who wants them? He can’t find anyone or any charity that collects the pull tabs.

County executive to discuss budget
Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon plans a meeting today to outline his proposed 2005 budget. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the Quil Ceda Village Conference Center, 8825 34th Ave. NE, Suite D, Marysville.
Correction
Seven-year-old Roxanne Doll was killed by Richard Matthew Clark on April 1, 1995. A caption under the girl’s photo on Page A1 Tuesday gave the wrong date of her death. Clark, who was convicted of aggravated murder in 1997, will face another jury next year to determine if he should be executed.
