Cell phone, driving law starts today
A new state law takes effect today banning drivers from talking on a hand-held cell phone. Violators could face a fine of $124. The law is a secondary offense, meaning that a driver has to be seen committing another violation, such as speeding, before authorities can issue a citation. Talking on cell phones is fine as long as drivers use a speakerphone setting or a hands-free device such as an earpiece or headset.
