The state Department of Transportation is looking for someone who wants to help improve walking and bicycling conditions in Snohomish and King counties to join the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee.
The committee offers the state advice on structures to build for walkers and bikers, and what programs the state should put into place.
The Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee is made up of seven members who serve three-year terms. The committee meets two or three times each year. The next meeting is Oct. 9, in Richland.
Applications are due Friday. Send your cover letter and resume highlighting your bicycle, pedestrian and other relevant experience, including volunteer work, to:

Snohomish Seniors get $5,700 grant
Snohomish Seniors has received a $5,700 grant to help pay for the popular Lifetime Fitness Program at the Snohomish Senior Center. The grant is from the Comprehensive Health Education Foundation of Seattle.
The new fitness program will begin Monday. The Snohomish Senior Center is located at 171 Cypress Ave. in Snohomish.
Lifetime Fitness is an exercise program created especially for seniors.
Red Cross needs some Real Heroes
The Snohomish County chapter of the American Red Cross is seeking nominations for its Real Heroes breakfast in December.
Heroes will be honored by a committee on the merits of their stories and the courageousness of their heroic acts.
