The state Department of Transportation will close the northbound lanes of the Highway 529 bridge over the Snohomish River 4 a.m.-noon Saturday and Sunday for a routine safety check on the equipment that supports the counterbalance.
Tall boats are prohibited from entering the Snohomish River during the closures. The work will not affect boats entering Union Slough, Steamboat Slough or Ebey Slough.

VFW post plans Patriot’s Day
The Gold Bar Veterans of Foreign Wars hosts its first Patriot’s Day barbecue 5-7 p.m. Saturday at the VFW Hall, 301 Third St. in Gold Bar. Share food, music and festivities to remember those who gave their lives for their country. Please bring your own candle for a ceremony.
Oso firefighters plan fund-raiser
The Oso Fire Department’s annual salmon bake and auction begins at 4 p.m. Saturday at 21824 Highway 530 east of Arlington. The suggested donation is $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and children. Help the rural community raise money for a new tender and tanker rig.

The American Association of University Women sponsors a talk about Providence Everett Healthcare Clinic by Lisa Carroll, the clinic’s manager. The talk will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Everett Senior Center, 3025 Lombard Ave.
