Community Transit came to the rescue of a social service agency Wednesday, donating a used van to Volunteers of America to replace one that was stolen last week from its thrift store lot on Broadway in Everett. The eight-passenger 1995 GMC van formerly was used in CT’s van pool program. The transit agency routinely donates used vans to area nonprofit groups.
The stolen van was loaned to VOA from a home in Seattle for low-income seniors and veterans. It was used to transport holiday bell-ringers to area shopping centers. The annual bell-ringer campaign is a major fund-raiser for VOA, which provides emergency food, housing, social services and other programs for low-income working families, seniors and the disabled.
Young teens to rock Friday
Middle-school teenagers are invited to a live rock band show by At the Spine 7-10 p.m. Friday at the Everett YMCA Teen Center, 2720 Rockefeller Ave. in Everett.
Shannon Wilson, teen night coordinator at the Y, said it should be an amazing show.
“It’s an opportunity for them to see a show that they would otherwise not have the chance to see,” Wilson said. “Music is such an integral part of the lives of children, and the chance to see a live show only comes once in a while.”
Wilson is a schoolteacher. The lead singer of the band that will be performing is also a schoolteacher.
