Visitors to the Evergreen State Fair can make a dunk to stop a drunk.

Snohomish County Sheriff Rick Bart, Prosecutor Janice Ellis and other elected officials have volunteered to sit in the dunk tank to raise money for the Snohomish County DUI Task Force and pro-active criminal enforcement. The task force also will have a traffic safety booth at the fair.

Caring reaches across continents

Temple Beth Or will host an interfaith rally as part of the Save the Darfur Coalition’s “Day of Consciousness” 7-8 p.m. today at the temple, 3215 Lombard Ave., Everett.

The coalition is made up of 70 faith-based, humanitarian and human rights organizations that seek to raise awareness, provide aid and fight the slaughter of thousands of people in the Darfur region of western Sudan.

Farm bureau hosts state candidates

The Snohomish County Farm Bureau hosts a public candidates forum at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Snohomish County PUD Auditorium, 2320 California Ave., Everett.

All of Snohomish County’s state legislative candidates have been invited. The audience will provide discussion topics and questions for candidates on numerous issues, but primarily on agriculture.

Golf tournament for a good cause

A golf tournament to benefit Families and Friends of Violent Crime Victims starts at 8 a.m. Friday at Cedarcrest Golf Club, 6810 84th St. NE, Marysville.

Former Seahawk Kerry Justin and several other football players will join the golfers. The cost is $75 per person. A 2 p.m. barbecue costs $15 for nongolfers. To register, become a sponsor or for more information, call 425-355-6822.

Correction

Snohomish County Community Corrections Commander Jim Harms hopes to hire 55 more jail custody officers by the time the new county jail opens in the spring. The Snohomish County Council approved hiring 25 jail custody officers, starting in October, but has not decided whether to hire more. A story on Page B1 Tuesday did not make it clear that the other 35 positions Harms seeks still await council approval.
