She didn’t win, or even finish, but Ann Keverline did just fine at the Danskin Triathlon Sunday in Seattle.
Herald columnist Kristi O’Harran wrote about Keverline on Page B3 Aug. 10 because she made a remarkable physical comeback after brain surgery in 2002. After she got back on her feet, she set a goal of entering the triathlon.
“I fell during the bicycling portion of the triathlon, even with training wheels, and couldn’t get up by myself,” she said. “Everyone was so kind and helpful. After I fell off my bike and was taken to the transition area, complete strangers were getting me water and power bars, making sure I was warm, and that I didn’t go into shock.”
One person gave her the triathlon medal that each participant who finished was given.
“I don’t feel I deserve it, but I’m keeping it anyway as a memento to the kindness of strangers.”
McDonald House gives free meals
Children at Boys and Girls Clubs of Snohomish County are getting free meals thanks to a recent grant given by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Western Washington, which gave $10,000 to the local club for its Kids Cafe school snack and meal program.
The donation allows the clubs to serve hot dinners five days a week at their North Everett Club and snacks five days a week at their South Everett-Casino Road Club.
“We feed hot meals and snacks to more than 150 children a night,” said Bill Tsoukalas, executive director of the county clubs. “This funding helps us to ensure that these children have balanced nutrition and do not go home hungry.”
Tow truck drivers, start your engines
Tow truck drivers are needed to help set a world record.
On Friday night, as part of the annual Northwest Regional Tow Show and Road-E-O sponsored by the Washington Tow Truck Association, the Tow Show “Light Parade” will be the site for the world’s longest tow parade. The light parade starts on the north end of the city of Wenatchee at dusk.
