TV will spotlight Burkheimer case

The 2002 murder of Rachel Burkheimer will be the focus of a special report tonight on Fox News.

Burkheimer’s father, Bill, and older sister, Meghan, tell the story of how the 18-year-old from Marysville slipped away through a series of tragic events and decisions.

The story airs at 10:30 p.m. on Channel 13.

One final chance to get kids moving

Friday is the last day to sign up kids for Get Movin’, which provides incentives for children to stay active at least 20 minutes three times a week this summer.

Similar to a summer reading program, kids who meet the challenge are given passes to one activity weekly: the Forest Park swim center, ice skating at the Everett Events Center, or climbing at Cascade Crags. Kids who are active for four weeks get a free ticket to an AquaSox baseball game.

The program is free and open to any child in Snohomish County, but is aimed primarily at children who aren’t regularly active. Any activity, from skateboarding to walking the dog, counts.

Parents can sign up their kids 10 a.m.-5 p.m. today and Friday at Providence Everett Family Resource Center, 900 Pacific Ave. in Everett. Call 425-261-4567 for more information.

Get Movin’ was organized by The Herald and four health care organizations – Providence Everett Medical Center, Medalia Medical Group, The Everett Clinic and Providence General Foundation -to battle obesity and improve children’s health.

Exercise and good nutrition can prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes, which is rapidly increasing among U.S. children.
