Don’t go today.

The fair is scheduled 9 a.m.-4 p.m. next Saturday, July 31, at Viking Hall, 1331 Pioneer Highway in Silvana. There will be animals, vendors, music, food, games, a magician, antique tractors and saw demonstrations.

Nonprofit groups can apply for vans

Nonprofit groups interested in applying to receive a free van or minibus through Community Transit’s Van GO program can see the vehicles and learn more about the application process 1-3 p.m. Tuesday at 7100 Hardeson Road in Everett.

Community Transit staff will be on hand to answer questions and display the vehicles. This year, Community Transit will grant six eight-passenger vans and four 14-passenger minibuses to Snohomish County organizations that have 501(c)3 tax status. The minibuses are equipped with wheelchair lifts.

Herbed oils worry health officials

Because of the small but severe danger of botulism when making your own herb-infused oils, we are reiterating the instructions from a story on Page 5 of Thursday’s Home &Garden section: After preparing the oil, strain through cheesecloth and discard the herbs. Plan to use the oil the same day or the next, and store the oil in the refrigerator until you are ready to serve it.

The Snohomish Health District says it does not recommend making your own herbed oil because of the possible toxic effect if all the bits of herb are not strained out and the oil isn’t refrigerated.

Correction

The Everett City Council on Wednesday decided to delay a vote on whether to use money from a special housing fund to help the Everett Housing Authority purchase the Timber Hill Apartments. An Our Towns item on Page B3 Friday had incorrect information on the vote. The council is scheduled to vote on the measure at its next meeting on Wednesday.
