All are welcome in Lake Stevens.
The former Lake Stevens’ Newcomer Club had too many guests who wanted to attend meetings, but they lived in the area for more than the two-year maximum.
Technically, they were no longer newcomers.
What’s a club to do?
They changed their name to The Greater Lake Stevens’ Women’s Social Club. They will get together for lunch the second Wednesday of each month to socialize and sometimes enjoy a program.

After years of trying, the creation of a special license plate honoring police killed in the line of duty may be approved during this session of our state Legislature.
Before, the state couldn’t create commemorative license plates because there was no process to review applications. That changed after the Legislature created the Special License Plate Review Board in 2003.
The first plate may honor law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.
Applicants for the memorial license plate would pay $40 up front and an annual fee of $30. The proceeds would help build a state law enforcement memorial on the Capitol campus in Olympia and assist survivors and families of slain officers.
The last officer killed in the line of duty in this area was in 1999, when Everett police officer Brian DiBucci died when he fell over a jersey barrier just east of the Hewitt Avenue trestle after a police pursuit.
