Navy squadron’s return delayed
A squadron of Navy EA-6B Prowlers that was expected to return to Whidbey Island Naval Air Station on Friday has been delayed on its way back from Afghanistan.
The jets now are scheduled to return Wednesday between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., officials said.
Support teams for the jets returned to Whidbey last week after a six-month deployment.
The final members of the team to come home are the flight crews and their jets, Navy spokesman Tony Popp said.
The Prowler is to be phased out by 2013 and replaced by the EA-18 Growler jet.
