There’s a tradition at Edmonds Community College of naming buildings after local areas.
Students go to Lynnwood Hall to enroll, buy their books in Mountlake Terrace and study music in Mill Creek.
The board of trustees recently approved some new building names. The Clearview Building will house the college’s human resources department, and the Maltby Building is home to WorkFirst and workforce development offices. Previously, the buildings were generically known as the North Campus Complex.
The college also now features the Lynnwood Employment Security Building, Monroe Hall and a proposed new classroom building will be Mukilteo Hall.
The newest building on campus, a center for families, will keep its descriptive name — the Center for Families.
Camano Senior and Community Center will hold its annual luncheon and fashion show of previously worn clothes at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at 606 Arrowhead Road on Camano Island.
The center could use donations of gently worn outfits, scarves, jewelry, handbags and more. Drop off donations between noon and 2 p.m. Wednesday at the center.
About 18 models will show outfits during the luncheon. As they walk through the audience, you can make a silent bid on the clothing and accessories.
The $8 luncheon begins with a reception, a chance to shop for clothing in the bargain store, followed by a salad and the show. Tickets are available at the center or at the Second Chance Thrift Store, 1335 Highway 532 on Camano Island.
Central Washington University’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble is one of only four university bands selected to perform Saturday at the 59th Music Educators National Conference in Minneapolis.
Local students who will make the trip include flutists Lucy Rolfe, Snohomish, and Melissa Thompson, Mill Creek, and clarinetist Heidi Brueggemann, Mukilteo.
The CWU Wind Ensemble received an invitation to perform when Music Educators National Conference president Dr. Willy Hill heard the ensemble last year in Portland, Ore.
