Six school districts offer maintenance and operation levies at the polls today including Arlington, Darrington, Granite Falls, Lakewood, Monroe and Stanwood-Camano. They hope you’ll vote.

Grant Barrie of Lake Stevens calls The Herald each spring to report that swallows showed up at his place of employment, De Jong Sawdust &Shavings in Lake Stevens.

He spotted three Monday.

The birds traditionally appear annually on March 19 at Mission San Juan Capistrano in California.

Here are the results from Friday’s Trivia Bee 2004, a fundraiser for the Snohomish County Literacy Coalition:

  • Snohomish Valley Rotary, first place with 200 points

  • Edmonds Community College, Axis of Recall, second place with 180 points

  • Everett Community College, Trivia Triumvirate, third place with 170 points.

    Snohomish County Literacy Coalition made $2,000 on the event to buy materials for volunteer tutors and their students.

    The Mukilteo School District Special Education Department offers a "Parent Coffee Talk" at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in House I on the Explorer Middle School campus, 9600 Sharon Drive in Everett.

    Meet other parents raising children with special needs, gather information and resources, share stories and experiences, develop a support system and enjoy a cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate.

    Car dealer Dwayne Lane estimates that Arlington could see at least $3 million in taxable revenues from several businesses in the proposed Island Crossing annexation. A story on Page A1 Monday did not give enough context for Lane’s quote. In the same story, Lane said that if his land were farmed, it would earn only about $800 for the farmer. The land is not currently farmed.
