The South Everett-Mukilteo Rotary Club raised nearly $100,000 for local charities during its recent dinner auction.
Michele Sayko, chairman of the event, said about 300 people attended the auction at the Everett Events Center.
Sayko said the final auditing won’t be completed until the last of the bills are received, but the total net will be more than $100,000. Nearly all members of the club participated in the planning and arrangements for the event, the largest of several the club holds each year to raise funds for charity.
All profits from the fund-raisers go to the 20 charities supported each year by the club. Club expenses are paid by dues and donations from the members.
The club has earmarked $11,000 of the proceeds from this year’s auction for scholarships that help support local students. The remainder will go to charitable organizations in the community.
High schools roll along with the same events — a prom, football games, academics, science fairs and open house nights.
That didn’t satisfy everyone at Granite Falls High School.
Parent and school board member Becky Brown led the charge to begin a new tradition. The first Senior Mother’s Tea is planned for
7 p.m. May 6.
It will be hosted by the junior class. Seniors are invited to bring a special woman, their mother or grandmother, dressed in semiformal wear, to dine and get pictures taken. There will be entertainment and door prizes. Tickets are $15.
The Arlington Heights Improvement Club will accept quilt squares 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at 12221 Arlington Heights Road, Arlington.
Deliver squares to benefit Quilt for the Cure for breast cancer research. Members will be at the club to help make squares, or drop by and donate squares, or donate any material to make the squares. Squares need to be pink or white. All the material will be collected and donated to a national foundation that will make the quilts and auction them off to raise money for breast cancer research.
