The Snohomish County Public Utility District is asking students in grades nine through 12 to use problem- solving skills to help investigate environmentally friendly power sources.
There will be cash prizes in the utility’s "Real World Problems" competition. Entries are due March 31.
Entrants will explore how to establish multiple sources of energy derived from a variety of sources, such as plants, wood waste, sewage and manure. The idea is to potentially reduce air pollution and improve watersheds.
Teams will prepare written plans, then semi-finalists will give oral presentations. Top teams will be recognized at a May PUD Board of Commissioners meeting.

Snohomish County Senior Services has started Pharmacy Connections.
They need volunteers for the program, to help seniors get free or discounted medications from the number of drug assistance programs available.
Volunteers will be able to show seniors how to apply for cheaper prescriptions. Pharmacy Connections also needs volunteers to go into the community to educate seniors on prescription- related topics.
