On Wednesday, there is a new moon, meaning the moon’s dark side is facing the earth. New moons aren’t visible except during a solar eclipse.

Thanks goes to Pat Lewis, a member of the Seattle and Everett Astronomical Societies, for keeping us apprised of sky happenings. For instance, Lewis said, Venus will be paired next to the crescent moon in the Southwestern sky early Saturday morning.

Join Snohomish County representatives from agencies that are preparing an All Natural Hazards Plan at two meetings:

  • 6-8:30 p.m. Jan. 27, Arlington Boys and Girls Club, 18513 59th Ave. NE, Arlington;

  • 6-8:30 p.m. Jan. 29, Monroe fire station, 163 Village Court, Monroe.

    The proposed All Natural Hazards Plan will identify hazards and areas of vulnerability in the county and decide how reduce them. The area covered by the plan will include unincorporated Snohomish County along with the cities of Arlington, Darrington, Gold Bar, Index, Marysville, Monroe, Mukilteo, Snohomish, Stanwood and Sultan.

    "The knowledge of residents and landowners is essential to the development of this plan," said Snohomish County Public Works Director Peter Hahn. "We’re hoping for a good turnout so we can get good firsthand information, and have the opportunity to share this important plan and process with interested county residents."

    Anyone with hazard information may fill out a questionnaire. For more information, visit www1.co.snohomish.wa.us/.
