Have you been witness to a recent act of heroism? Do you know someone who has saved a life or gone beyond the call of duty in an emergency or prevented a disaster between Nov. 1, 2002, and Dec. 31, 2003? Does someone you know perform heroically as a community volunteer?

The American Red Cross, Island County Chapter, and Whidbey Island Bank seek nominations for a Real Heroes Breakfast planned for March 2.

Nominations are due Friday. The hero must live or work in Island County. For more information, call 360-257-2096.

A Veterans Information Fair is planned 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at American Legion Post 96, 1201 First St. in Snohomish.

Any veteran who has a discharge under honorable conditions may find out about signing up for VA medical benefits and learn about available programs.

Senior Services of Snohomish County is looking for volunteers to help others fill out prescription assistance applications or work in community education.

  • Sen. Maria Cantwell voted to continue procedural delays being used to block a vote on a $373 million spending bill before the U.S. Senate on Tuesday, and Sen. Patty Murray voted to move the bill forward. Their votes were stated incorrectly in an information box on Page A5 on Wednesday.
