Responding quickly to an article on Page A1 of Monday’s Herald about the lack of turkeys at the Everett Food Bank, Pacific Ridge Homes donated $5,000 to purchase turkeys for the Everett Volunteers of America Food Bank and Family Support Services.
Virginia Sprague, who oversees food bank operations, said she was gratified by the donation. To reach its goal of distributing 525 holiday food baskets, the food bank needed $5,000.
The donation will be used to purchase turkeys for family food baskets and turkey hams for seniors and households with developmentally disabled adults.
The Tulalip Tribes donated $20,000 to VOA and other food banks. See Page B2 for more details.
Horse and carriage rides will be offered 1-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday starting at the Frontier Bank parking lot on Hewitt and Wetmore avenues in downtown Everett.
The charge is $5 a person with a donation of a nonperishable food item for the Volunteers of America Food Bank.
Volunteers are needed to set up and assist with the rides.

In a story about Granite Falls appealing a county rezone for horse farmer Dean Essex on Page B1 Monday, the previous zoning of the Essex farm was incorrectly described. The story should have said the land was zoned rural, 5 acres.
