Darrington Elementary School is having a box-tops drive. Students had such an overwhelming response in the last drive they decided to ask for more help. They hope to collect 2,500 Save ‘N’ Send box tops by June 6.
Several years ago, students collected enough box tops to purchase a tire swing for the intermediate school playground.
Now they want to update the playground, but only have a quarter of the needed funds.
Mail box tops, listed at www. boxtops4education.com/, to Darrington Elementary, P.O. Box 27, Darrington, WA 98241.

The Everett Parks Department’s horticultural staff is removing winter foliage from the 300 containers on Colby and Hewitt avenues.
The small evergreen shrubs in each container are in their seventh year of use. They will be returned to the greenhouse at Legion Park for reuse in the winter planting.
The annuals, in the last stages of their prime, will be composted. The Parks Department empties and then refills each container with fresh soil composted from the previous year’s foliage. The recycling and composting process not only saves the city thousands of dollars, but also provides the best environment for the new plants.
The state Internet license tab service has proved popular. Since it started in May 2001, more than 390,000 vehicles have been licensed online. More than 300,000 transactions for vehicle license renewals were completed online in 2002, about 5 percent of all renewals.
