After The Herald printed an FYI item about host homes being needed, readers responded.

As we wrote, three young South Korean boys with ear defects will arrive next week in Snohomish County for operations to restore their hearing.

The Everett Clinic’s Dr. Ron Krueger is donating the surgery, which involves opening the boys’ ear canals. Some plastic surgery may be required at Providence Everett Medical Center.

Everett-based Healing the Children, which is sponsoring the boys’ trip to the United States, received more than 20 offers from families.

The hard part, Rebecca Snyder of the group said, is deciding which three families will house the children.

The North Creek Watershed Coalition needs volunteers to monitor North Creek and its tributaries.

A training session begins at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Northwest Stream Center in McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE in Everett.

Starting with Wednesday’s drawing, there is no more Lotto Plus Gold Ball.

The old Lotto game is back, the state lottery commission announced. Players can pick six numbers from 01 to 49, or use the Quick Pick option. Odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 6,991,908 and 1 in 27 overall. Wednesday’s drawing is for $1 million.
