Join the dedication ceremony tonight at Lakewood School District’s new Cougar Creek Elementary School at 16216 11th Ave. NE in Arlington.
Drop by at 7 p.m. and chat with former district superintendent Kristine McDuffy and the architects and namers of the school. The Lakewood High School jazz ensemble and the elementary school choir will provide entertainment. Girl Scout Troop 442 will perform the flag presentation. There also will be self-guided tours.
The Everett Masons will give shoes away to schoolchildren who can’t afford new ones 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the Masonic Center, 220 Olympic Blvd. in Everett.
An earlier giveaway on Sept. 13 was a success. Masons gave shoes to 69 schoolchildren from eight Everett and two Mukilteo schools. On Saturday, they will provide for the other eight Everett elementary schools.
Although the Masons are coordinating and paying for the event, the Everett Rainbow girls are doing the work. Recipients are fitted and receive free shoes, new in the box, at the lodge. A pair of socks is also provided.
Catherines Plus Size clothing store is gathering coats for needy women in the area. Take coats 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday to 7705 Evergreen Way in Cascade Plaza in Everett.
It’s the season for holiday bazaars, and we will again publicize the events in our Sunday Community Calendar. If your group is renting tables, we will let readers know who to call, and then publicize the event a week before it is scheduled. Send information to The Herald, P.O. Box 930, Everett, WA 98206 or e-mail newstips@heraldnet.com.
A photo on Page B1 Wednesday of a city of Everett crew installing a sculpture in downtown Everett listed the order of the workers’ names incorrectly. The photo and a correct caption appear on Page B2 today.
