Global Day to note county’s diversity
Snohomish County invites people to attend Global Day, featuring international crafts, food and music.
From 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, the county campus will celebrate the diversity of Snohomish County.
Music will be provided by Latin American group Los Flacos. The Na Mea Hula O Ka Mana’O’I’O dancers will perform traditional Hawaiian steps. Global crafters and artisans will showcase their wares, and food with an international flavor will be sold. Resources from regional human service organizations will also be available.
Music will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. as part of the county’s ongoing Music on the Plaza. Dancing starts at noon.

Folks who carpool save money on gas and ease the wear and tear on vehicles. Now it could win you a trip to Hawaii.
Community Transit, the Washington State Ridesharing Organization and Commuteride are sponsoring a ridesharing contest that includes a grand prize trip for two. To be eligible, you must share a ride (carpool or vanpool) for at least two days a week between now and Sept. 12. To register, log on to www.rideshareonline.com or call 888-814-1300.
Second prize is a weekend getaway for two to Suncadia Resort in Roslyn. Third prize is a $500 MasterCard gift card. There are also weekly drawings to win $100 MasterCard gift cards.
Post office plans for biohazard test
The U.S. Postal Service and other Everett aid groups are planning to test procedures used in the event of the discovery of a toxic substance in a letter or package.
It’s planned for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Everett Processing and Distribution Facility, 8120 Hardeson Road, Everett.
Biohazard detection systems are in use at all mail processing facilities across the country. The automated system continuously tests samples of air collected above the mail as it enters the first stage of automated processing.
The Snohomish Health District will conduct a practice exercise in dispensing medicine to victims of contamination at 4 p.m. at the Everett Carrier Annex, 2201 100th St. SW, Everett.
