Ball game benefits lepers, orphans

Airborne Ranger veterans and Chapter 16 of the Special Forces Association are hosting a benefit baseball game in Everett.

The game is planned for 7 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Stadium, 3900 Broadway. Tickets are $5.

The game benefits an orphanage and leper colony in Vietnam.

The Everett Merchants of the Pacific International League will play the Puget Sound Senior Baseball League All-Star team.

The Merchants offer a free youth clinic, Giving Back to the Community, from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the stadium.

Lakewood’s school director begins job

Joyce Scott will take over as the new director of learning support services Tuesday at the Lakewood School District.

She currently coordinates Lakewood High School’s career and technical education and student success programs. Scott was a counselor at the school from 2000 to 2007.

She has also worked as an instructional assistant at Snohomish High School and as a substitute teacher in Arizona.

Scott earned a master’s degree in guidance and counseling in 2000 from City University of Seattle. She received a vocational counselor certificate in 2005 and is completing her Washington career and technical education director certification.

Old cell phones recycled to help

The Snohomish County Center for Battered Women is recycling cell phones.

Old cell phones can still dial 911 when charged, even if there is no service. Cell phones may be given to victims of domestic violence to help keep them safe.

Phones can recycled to centers that will pay from 50 cents to $10 per phone to support services for clients.
