Inspirational coach to speak in Everett
Herman Boone is the keynote speaker of Snohomish County’s Annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration Tuesday. Boone is the inspiration for the Disney movie “Remember the Titans,” starring Denzel Washington.
The movie is about Boone’s experience resolving the racial divide of a newly integrated high school football team. A free screening of the movie will be shown at 2 p.m. Sunday at Everett Public Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave.
Volunteers needed for shoreline work
People for Puget Sound seeks volunteers for two work parties along Snohomish County shorelines.
A work party hosted by the Port of Everett is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 17 at Union Slough. From northbound Highway 529 in Everett, turn right at 37th Street NE and follow the signs.
A second work party is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 31 at Picnic Point County Park, 12001 Picnic Point Road, Edmonds. The Snohomish County Parks and Recreation Department and the Snohomish Marine Resources Committee are sponsoring the Edmonds event.
At both sites, volunteers can help plant native trees and shrubs that will provide habitat and food for birds and salmon.
Eat brunch on Camano Island
Brunch at the Camano Island Yacht Club is planned for 9 a.m. to noon Sunday at 129 N. Sunset Drive.
The price is $8 for adults and $5 for children under age 9. Brunch includes bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, hash browns, fresh fruit, sweet rolls, juice, coffee and tea.
