Learn about jobs in construction
More than 300 students are expected at the Second Annual Construction Carnival today at Sno-Isle Tech Skills Center in Everett.
Journeymen will be there to answer questions and offer high school students the opportunity to try a number of tasks while learning about careers in the construction trades. Students will get a chance to ride a boom lift, frame a house and lay brick.
Exhibitors include Western Washington Sheet Metal Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee, which will offer students the chance to build a sheet-metal tool tray they can take with them, and Master Builder’s Career Connection, which features a “hands-on building experience” that teaches students how to build a house from the ground up.
“Many students aren’t aware of the vast array of apprenticeship opportunities available to them right out of high school,” said Sam Samano of Workforce Development Council Snohomish County.
The council’s Construction Careers Partnership was the event’s host.
Prayer service for Father Marquart
The Rev. Joseph Marquart, Pastor of St. Mary Magdalen Church and School in Everett for the past 22 years, passed away suddenly Friday.
In addition to the formal funeral Friday, students will have their own religious ceremony to say goodbye to Marquart, a supporter of Catholic education. A “Goodbye to Father Marquart Prayer Service” is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 8615 Seventh Ave. SE in Everett.
Library program supports school
Anthony Kelley shows photos at the Everett Library at 7 tonight.
He will tell his story about the value of education, determination and finding your passion. Coming from a difficult childhood, Kelley enjoyed exciting years with the University of Washington Husky football team. Almost by chance, he decided to visit South Africa and today he works on projects to improve the lives of the children he met there while pursuing a Ph.D. in education.
The program supports an Everett High School program called One Book — One School: Be the Change.
The library is at 2702 Hoyt Ave. in Everett.
