Water spray park to open Friday
The kids won’t care if it’s raining on Friday, especially if they’re among the first to play at Snohomish County’s new water spray park.
A grand opening ceremony is 2 p.m. Friday with cookies, lemonade, balloons and coffee at Snohomish County’s Willis Tucker Community Park, 6705 Puget Park Drive, Snohomish. The park is east of Mill Creek and south of Snohomish near Highway 9 and Cathcart Way.

Open pickup a bad place for your dog
The weather is warming and more people are inclined to put their dogs in the backs of their pickups.
State law requires that animals be contained or safely secured on a short leash, but Bud Wessman, director of Everett Animal Services, advises people not to do it at all.
“People think it’s a wonderful thing for a dog to be out, but particles in the air can blind a dog,” Wessman said. “For your pet’s well being, keep it secure inside your vehicle.”
For more information about caring for pets, go to the Everett Animal Services pages on the city’s Web site, www.everettwa.org.

North Cascades Highway reopens
State Department of Transportation crews opened the North Cascades Highway on Tuesday afternoon, and it should be open for Memorial Day weekend.
Highway 20 was closed Thursday after warm temperatures caused several snowslides east of Washington Pass. The snow has stabilized and weather forecasts don’t suggest any conditions that would close the highway for the holiday weekend, a state spokesman said.
Drivers crossing mountain passes can dial 511 from most phones to get updated road information from the Transportation Department.
