Volunteers rush to help in Nevada
Bill Westlake of Mountlake Terrace and Steven Place of Everett, American Red Cross volunteers from the Snohomish County Chapter, left Friday to help victims Thursday of the earthquake in Wells, Nevada.
Westlake will work in disaster assessment; Place will work in shelter operations.
PUD receives green kudos
ComputerWorld recognized the Snohomish County Public Utility District as one of its top 12 environmentally friendly information technology organizations in its Feb. 18 issue.
Reasons for recognition include:

Arts commission offers scholarships
Students who excel in literary and performing arts are eligible to receive scholarships through the Edmonds Arts Commission.
Applicants must be Edmonds residents, ages 17 and older, who intend to pursue higher education in fields such as theater, creative writing, dance, instrumental music and vocal music. Preference will be given to applicants pursuing education toward careers in literary or performing arts.
The application deadline is 5 p.m. March 3.

Financial report aired at workshop
The Arlington City Council plans to discuss the city’s 2008 financial report and plans for the library and a Community Transit center at a workshop at 7 p.m. Monday in the Council Chambers at 110 E. Third St.
Correction
Washington State Ferries is making no recommendation at this time regarding how to address a tax shelter lease agreement for the ferry Klickitat, which the state entered into in the mid 1980s. A story about plans for leases on other Steel Electric-class ferries that appeared on page B1 Friday incorrectly reported the state’s position on the Klickitat lease.
