Northwest icons on White House tree
A Mount Rainier National Park ornament is displayed on this year’s official White House Christmas Tree. The tree is the centerpiece of decorations celebrating the theme of “Holiday in the National Parks.”
The tree, an 18-foot-tall fir, located in the Blue Room, is adorned with handmade ornaments from 391 National Park Service sites. The ornament depicts a mountain scene of Paradise meadows and the Muir snowfield taken from Mazama Ridge. On the back side are images of birds in the park including a western tanager and Steller’s jay.
