Enter Everett Elks essay contest
Everett Elks Lodge 479 is offering scholarships and sponsoring an essay contest.
The service club’s Most Valuable Student scholarship applications are available at the lodge office, 2731 Wetmore Ave., No. 208A, in Everett, or can be downloaded at www.elks.org/enf/scholars/ourscholarships.cfm.
Applicants don’t need to be related to an Elks member to apply. They will be judged on leadership, scholarship and financial need. Male and female students compete separately. Applications are due to the Everett Elks office by 2 p.m. Jan. 11.

The lodge also is sponsoring an essay contest for fifth- through eighth-grade students.
The essay topic is “What is an American?” Essays of 250 words or less are due to the Everett Elks Lodge, P.O. Box 13227, Everett, WA 98206, by Jan. 10. Call 425-350-6623 for more information.
‘Ratatouille’ at the Everett Library
The Everett Public Library plans to show a movie for kids at 2 p.m. today.
“Ratatouille” is rated G. The film tells the story of a rat who enjoys gourmet food.

Everett Symphony concert Sunday
Everett Symphony’s 13th annual Night Before New Year’s Eve celebration is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave.
Veteran Seattle sportscaster Tony Ventrella is the master of ceremonies for the event that kicks off with a reception with appetizers and champagne.

Camano Island ball set for Monday
The Camano Senior and Community Center, 606 Arrowhead Road, plans to hold its Black and White Ball from 8 p.m. to midnight New Year’s Eve. The event is a fundraiser for the center.
The Camano Junction band is scheduled to perform.
Tickets are $15 each and include hot appetizers and a midnight champagne toast.
