After the column ran, organizer Nancy Thurmond of Everett said she received heart-warming donations and e-mails from as far away as Germany requesting sewing directions. Thurmond thanks everyone for their support, including a postal worker in Lynnwood who chipped in for shipping costs.
Red Cross sends help to Montana
William Westlake of Mountlake Terrace, a Red Cross disaster services volunteer with the Snohomish County Chapter, has deployed to Missoula, Mont., to assist victims affected by wildfires in the state.
He will work at an emergency shelter. Westlake is a member of the Red Cross’ national Disaster Services Human Resources team, trained and ready to respond to natural disasters anywhere in the U.S. Assignments normally are for three-week periods.
Thar be pirates in our midst, matey
The Port of Everett Marina hosts its second Puget Sound Pirate Festival from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday in the South Marina.
Pirates of Puget Sound will bring 40 members of the “Jack Pack” to interact with the crowd.
There will be free or low-cost activities and entertainment. Children can play a variety of pirate-oriented games such as Swab the Deck, Bat a Rat and Load the Cannon.
Vendors will sell pirate-themed trinkets, goods, clothing, games and books.
Marysville shuts street for bazaar
Third Street is turned into a homegrown bazaar with arts, crafts, food and entertainment from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday east of State Avenue.
