A concert with Arlington’s contestants in the Evergreen Country Idol competition is planned for 3 p.m. today at the Beehive Stage, 28802 Highway 9, Arlington.
The Variety House is organizing the concert and planning semifinals for the competition on Aug. 2. Two area singers are expected to be selected to participate in the Evergreen State Fair semifinals in Monroe.
Today’s event costs $5 for adults and is free for kids 12 and younger. Alcohol and smoking are not allowed at the event.
How to be ready for emergencies
Mary Schoemfeldt, Public Education Coordinator for the Everett Office of Emergency Management, will talk about emergency preparedness at 8:45 a.m. Thursday at Everett Mall’s Center Court.
She will be joined by Jade Broglio, with MedStaff, a medical staffing company in Seattle.

Register block parties with police
Lynnwood neighbors who would like to hold block parties as part of National Night Out Against Crime are asked to call and register their events with the Lynnwood Police Department.
National Night Out Against Crime, scheduled for Aug. 7, is a nationwide event in which people turn on their porch lights and go outside to meet their neighbors. Many neighborhoods hold barbecues and block parties.
Lynnwood police and firefighters plan to tour city neighborhoods that register their block parties with the police department. Police plan to distribute free booklets on crime prevention.
