Five Everett Community College engineering students will compete next week in the International Submarine Races in Bethesda, Md., with their Triton II submarine.
The team worked for nine months building a human-powered submarine. EvCC is the only community college competing in the races and will be judged against 22 teams from around the world.
Team members traveling to Maryland include Justin Bailey, Justin Kaber, Zach Hawkins, Jesse Magruder and Brian Doolan. Karl Jacobsen also worked on the sub.
Students worked with EvCC engineering instructor Eric Davishahl. Graphics students designed the submarine’s custom look.
Dates change for garage sale
At holiday time, children in need can pick out Christmas presents, thanks to Shop with a Cop and the Lynnwood Police Department.
A garage sale to benefit the program was set to run this weekend, but because of possible rain, the time and dates have been changed.
The garage sale is now scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 6 and 7, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 8, at 3505 180th Place SW, Lynnwood.
Thanks to Target and longtime Lynnwood resident Sue Emme, who puts on the garage sale, last year 12 mothers and 30 children in the Pathways for Women YWCA program were able to pick out gifts.
