FYI

Friends of Camano Island Parks aims to keep Camano Island a wildlife-friendly island by training a team of volunteers to serve as habitat stewards.

Stewards help the community create, preserve, enhance and restore wildlife habitat. The training includes 24 hours of study on topics that include identifying native plants and creating a wildlife sanctuary.

Training is planned for 6:30 p.m. Feb. 15 and 22 and March 1, 8 and 15 at the Camano Multipurpose Center, 141 E. Camano Drive, Camano Island. Training includes two field trips at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 17 and March 10 as well as optional work parties at the Camano Wildlife Habitat demonstration gardens.

The program is free, but there is a $20 fee for course materials, and the group asks volunteers for a commitment of 50 hours. For more information, call Friends of Camano Island Parks, 360-387-2236, or e-mail camanobwh@ yahoo.com.

Island County to auction property

The Island County treasurer has scheduled a foreclosure auction at 9 this morning at the County Commissioner’s Hearing Room, 1 NE Sixth St., room B 102, Coupeville.

More than a dozen properties will be auctioned, the treasurer said. Both improved and unimproved lots are included.

Successful bidders must be prepared to cover their bids as soon as the property is announced as sold. All payments must be made in full with cash, cashier’s checks or money orders.

The lots are being auctioned because previous owners failed to pay their 2003 property taxes.
