A birthday party for the Everett Theatre is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Everett Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave., Everett.
The grand dame of Colby Avenue is too busy with her fall schedule to observe her own birthday, so the party is at the library.
Look at baby pictures; talk about some of the legendary figures who have graced her stage, including Al Jolson; listen to music that was performed there long ago; share stories; and eat cake.
Historian David Dilgard will be on hand to retell the landmark’s story.
Everett church shows Al Gore film
Everett First United Methodist Church’s Social Justice Committee will offer a free showing of former Vice President Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” at 7 tonight at 3530 Colby Ave., Everett.
Creatures slither into the library
The Pacific Northwest Herpetological Society will show “Slithery Creatures” from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Everett Library, 9512 Evergreen Way, Everett.
There may be snakes, turtles, iguanas, chameleons and frogs.
Kids and their families can meet the creatures and talk with their owners.
Check insurance complaints online
Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler launched a new Web tool for consumers, called the annual Complaint Comparison Guide, at https:// fortress.wa.gov/oic/ complaints/.
Search online for auto, health and homeowner companies and see complaints.
“Consumers deserve to know how their company stacks up,” said Kreidler. “Our insurance consumer hotline receives more than 2,000 calls a week from consumers with questions about their insurance.”
A complaint index measures the number of consumer complaints for one company in relation to other companies in the same market. A company with a complaint index of 1 has an average number of complaints. A company with a complaint index higher than 1 has more complaints than average.
