Kusler’s hosts its second annual Pumpkin Pie-Baking Contest at 2 p.m. Oct. 28 at 700 Ave. D, Snohomish.

Bakers need to register by dropping by or calling 360-568-7787 by Oct. 26. Pies should be brought to the store between 1 and 1:30 p.m. on the 28th.

Judges are Snohomish Mayor Randy Hamlin, Dorothy Clayton and Merle Kirkley.

First place is a $300 gift certificate to Kusler’s.

Light a candle for victims of abuse

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. A candlelight vigil is planned for 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Snohomish County Courthouse plaza, 3000 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.

Bring a candle to show support for those affected by domestic violence. Learn what can be done to help women and children be safe in their homes.

Fire district has signs for sale

The Marysville Fire District is selling reflective house-number signs for $10.

The signs help firefighters and emergency-aid providers quickly find residences in an emergency. The sales are part of the “If we can’t find you, we can’t help you” campaign sponsored by the Marysville Fire District Foundation.

Signs are available in either vertical or horizontal formats.
