On Dec. 15, Snohomish County police officers joined their counterparts throughout our state to conduct the 16th annual Night of 1,000 Stars DUI and traffic safety emphasis patrol. The 1,000 stars represent all of the law enforcement badges in Washington.
Preliminary results show there were 30 people arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in Snohomish County, up from 26 in 2005.
“In other parts of the state, it seems that there were not as many impaired drivers on the roadways or possibly there were not enough available law enforcement officers to do this special emphasis patrol because of the heavy winds the day before,” said Tracy McMillan, Snohomish County DUI Task Force coordinator. During 2005’s patrol event, 275 people were arrested statewide, while this year the number was 201, McMillan said.
