Matthew House, an organization that supports families of inmates at the Monroe Correctional Complex, helps children of inmates get school supplies.
Executive director Linda Paz said that as the number of families has increased in the past few years, so has the need for backpacks, calculators, paper, pens and school items for children in all grades.
Paz, the oldest of 10 children, says she remembers what it was like for her own family to get supplies on a small income.
“We are doing everything we can to help these families get the children what they need,” she said. “We really depend on the community to bring supplies for us to hand out.”
Drop off donations by Aug. 27 at 16207 177th Ave. SE in Monroe. For more information, call 360-794-8720.
