Christmas Rhapsody at Mariner High

Christmas Winter Rhapsody 2008 offers a cornucopia of free services and entertainment for family fun.

It’s planned for noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at Mariner High School, 200 120th St. SW in Everett.

There will be gifts from Toys for Tots, Santa pictures, a decorated Christmas tree giveaway, a teen gift raffle, a $500 scholarship and music.

Take a food item for the Volunteers of America Food Bank.

Governor launches new Web site

Gov. Chris Gregoire’s new Web site is at www.governor.wa.gov.

It tells folks how her office works and includes a way to ask her a question or request a meeting.

Be safe during the holiday season

The city of Mountlake Terrace offers the following safety tips for the holiday season:

Home safety:

@1. Body FYI Bullet:Lock doors and windows when away, even if you’ll be gone for only a short while.

Leave a light on and ask neighbors to keep an eye on your house. Use automatic timers to make it appear someone is home.

When going on vacation, stop newspaper and mail deliveries. Call the city’s Crime Watch volunteers to check on your house while you are gone.

Personal safety:

@1. Body FYI Bullet:Walk with your head up in well-lighted and well-traveled areas. Be aware of your surroundings in parking lots, especially after dark.

Use credit cards or checks instead of cash.

Dress casually when out shopping — expensive clothes and jewelry attract thieves.

Shop with a friend.

Vehicle safety:

@1. Body FYI Bullet:Always lock your vehicle and park in well-lighted areas as close to your destination as possible.

Do not leave valuables in your car.

Use 911 to report suspicious people and activity immediately.

First aid and CPR classes offered

Arlington Parks and Recreation Department will offer first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation classes.

Sheila Davis is scheduled to give first aid instruction to people age 12 and older from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 1 in the community room at Arlington Boys &Girls Club, 18513 59th Ave. NE.

Davis plans to teach CPR from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 2, also in the community room. The classes cost $25 each.
