Volunteers may go online and pick a project from more than 65 listed at United Way of Snohomish County’s Web site, www.uwsc. org.
Form teams to complete projects including painting, building, cleaning or reading to kids.
Volunteers will receive a T-shirt designed by Calista Klein, winner of this year’s Day of Caring T-shirt design contest. Calista is a senior at Snohomish High School. In addition to printing her design on 1,400 T-shirts, United Way will honor her at the Spirit of Snohomish County Breakfast on Sept. 7.

Measures need pro, con writers
The Snohomish County Council seeks people to write statements in support or opposition to the proposed county charter amendments on the November ballot.
There are six proposed changes to the document that sets rules for how county government operates.
Charter amendments are available on the county Web site, www1.co.snohomish. wa.us. Search for “Charter Review.”
Letters of interest with contact information and qualifications are due Aug. 31. Send them to Clerk of the Snohomish County Council, 3000 Rockefeller Ave., Everett, WA 98201, or e-mail county.council@co. snohomish.wa.us.
Reading center needs help
The Everett Community College Literacy Center needs adult volunteers who can give two or more hours a week to help adults improve reading, writing, English speaking and math skills.
Volunteers must possess literacy skills, patience and sensitivity to a variety of learning styles and ethnic backgrounds. Tutoring times and locations are flexible.
