Volunteers sought for free tax help
More than 60 volunteers are needed to prepare tax returns at United Way’s free tax preparation centers.
United Way of Snohomish County will operate three centers from Jan. 22 to April 15 to help low- and middle-income families prepare income tax forms, file electronically and take advantage of tax credits.
The centers helped families claim $1.2 million in tax refunds last year. More than $8 million in Earned Income Tax Credits go unclaimed each year in Snohomish County.
All volunteers will receive free training and be certified by the IRS. Free tax preparation centers are located in Everett, south Everett and Lynnwood. Volunteers who speak Spanish and Russian are greatly needed.
For more information, go to www.uwsc.org and click on “Volunteer” or call 425-374-5506.
Senior center discussion planned
A Senior Center Advisory Group plans three meetings to discuss formation of a senior center for the Mill Creek area.
Meetings are planned for 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5 and 10 in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 15728 Main St., Mill Creek.
Corrections
Because of a production error, incorrect television listings were printed on Page D3 on Thursday.
A headline and a secondary headline on Page B1 on Thursday used inconsistent terms to describe a development moratorium discussed by the Snohomish County Council. The moratorium would apply to mini-cities.
