The southbound Highway 529 bridge over Steamboat Slough just north of Everett will be closed for maintenance on Saturday.
The bridge opens using counterweights, which need to be adjusted, said Travis Phelps, a spokesman for the state Department of Transportation.
“We’re basically going to adjust the weights to help the bridge open and close more efficiently,” Phelps said.
The bridge will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Drivers can take I-5 into Everett, but be prepared for traffic congestion.
Kids donate bears for charity auction
Six children at Sunnyside Preschool in Lake Stevens made stuffed animals at Build-A-Bear at Alderwood mall during a recent birthday party for Kiara Paisley O’Neil.

Preschool owner Cindy Brengman will host a semiformal dinner, with celebrity entertainers and the benefit auction, with all proceeds to go to KidsDream. For more information, call 425-334-6563.
