More than 100 people were expected to walk a mile for peace at the Alderwood mall food court in Lynnwood beginning at 7:45 a.m. today.
The walkers hope to raise money for victims of domestic violence during the mall’s “Walk a Mile in Their Shoes” event, which benefits the Snohomish County Center for Battered Women.
The center for battered women is dedicated to ending domestic violence by providing a range of services to victims and their children.
Railroad program benefits food bank
A railroad history and music night to benefit the Maltby Food Bank building fund will begin at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Maltby Congregational Church, 21111 86th Ave. SE in Snohomish.
Bob Heirman will show historical railroad photographs from his collection. There also will be railroad songs and refreshments. Tickets are $10.

Murals tell stories of immigration
Cascadia Community College will unveil a mural created by students depicting their homelands around the world at 6 p.m. today at the campus, 18345 Campus Way NE in Bothell, near Room 60 on the lower level of the college.
The mural project, which has been under way for a year, has been the focal point of classroom conversations about each student’s emigration and memories, and connections to their native countries.
Comcast workers give up a Saturday
More than 300 Comcast workers devoted Saturday to community service projects, including building a new picnic area in Mill Creek, building dog shelters at HappyPaws in Arlington, doing chores at the Northwest Organization for Animal Help near Stanwood, and setting up an auction for Big Brothers-Big Sisters in Lynnwood.
