Discussions begin on PUD rate cut
Deliberations on lowering Snohomish County PUD rates start today when general manager Ed Hansen presents his proposed 2006 budget to the utility’s governing commission.
In August, the commission asked Hansen to find a way to lower rates. Since then, Hansen and his staff have discussed potential ways the utility can lower rates by 3 percent.
Hansen will make his official proposal at the commission’s 1:30 p.m. meeting at PUD headquarters, 2320 California St., Everett.
The PUD normally meets on Tuesdays but is meeting today because state law requires that PUD general managers present their proposed budgets to the public on the first Monday of October. Call 425-783-8611 for more information.
Community Transit unveils new fares
Local fares on Community Transit buses and DART paratransit services changed Saturday, the first change in seven years.
The fare change eliminated Community Transit-only youth and senior-disabled passes in favor of PugetPasses, which are accepted on Community Transit, Everett Transit, King County Metro Transit, Pierce Transit and Sound Transit service.
Commuter fares did not change.
Adult fares and Dial-A-Ride are $1.25; youth fares are 75 cents; and senior and disabled fares are 50 cents.
Riders with annual passes or ticket books can pay the fare difference in cash, or contact Community Transit about an upgrade at 425-353-RIDE or go to ridestore.commtrans .org on the Internet.
