Merchants in Snohomish made a big effort to provide an attractive holiday atmosphere downtown, said Genna Nashem, director of the Visitor Center and Historic Downtown Snohomish.
“Besides encouraging window displays, we also encouraged more use of lights and installed lights on the street trees, on the gazebo and have a wonderful tree,” she said. “Next year we will build on it some more.”
A comfort for families
The national group, Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep, has a local service that provides a free portrait to families of ill infants who are not expected to survive or have recently died. The family receives a DVD slideshow of their photos set to music they select. They also receive a compact disc copy of the images. Photographer Jen Eagan of Everett began volunteering for the project after losing her own daughter when she was 5 months old and having few portraits of her. Eagan is the Western Washington coordinator for the group. For more information, call 425-971-8271 or go to nowilay medowntosleep.org on the Internet.
