Help to provide holiday meals
Join Volunteers of America, Safeway and Fluke Networks to provide holiday meals to those who wouldn’t otherwise get them.
A $20 donation provides one complete turkey dinner.
“The 2,700 families we will serve this Christmas is up 40 percent from just two years ago,” said Bill Humphreys, director of basic needs with Volunteers of America. “These are Snohomish County’s most vulnerable families, and 90 percent of these folks who seek help through the food bank are either the working poor, seniors or those with disabilities on a fixed income.”
To donate:
* Give online at www.voaww.org.
* Drop by the Everett Food Bank, 1230 Broadway, or call 425-259-3192.
* Mail contributions to Volunteers of America Food Bank Holiday Dinners, P.O. Box 839, Everett, WA 98206.
EvCC dubs building Whitehorse Hall
Everett Community College has named its new arts and sciences building Whitehorse Hall. The $27 million building is being built near the main entrance to the campus.
EvCC historically names its buildings after peaks in the Cascade and Olympic mountains. Whitehorse Mountain is the second major peak north of Mount Pilchuck.
Whitehorse Hall will replace Pilchuck, Glacier and Monte Cristo halls. The building will bring the college’s visual arts and physical sciences classes under one roof, and provide students larger labs and studios.
Take a cat home for the holidays
A cat adoption day dubbed “Black Cats Are Beautiful” is planned from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Black Cat Antiques, 1234 First St., Snohomish.
If you can’t make it to Snohomish, four cats orphaned by Hurricane Katrina are available for adoption at the Progressive Animal Welfare Society, 15305 44th Ave. W., Lynnwood.
Silvana fire auxiliary will wrap your gifts
Snohomish County Fire District 19’s auxiliary will offer its gift-wrapping services from 5 to 8 p.m. today and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the old fire station, 1430 Pioneer Highway, Silvana.
Proceeds will support the volunteer fire department.
