Red Cross wins homeland grant
The Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross will soon be using state-of-the-art computer technology for its disaster services work, thanks to a $40,000 grant from the Department of Homeland Security and Washington state’s Emergency Services Department.
The grant is part of the chapter’s $500,000 campaign to upgrade its technology and extend its outreach throughout Snohomish County.
The special equipment will help the Red Cross chapter communicate and exchange information with the county’s Department of Emergency Management, fire and police departments and hospitals during disasters and other incidents.
It will also be used as a tracking and identification tool for the chapter’s volunteers and clients in any catastrophe, and will allow the Red Cross to share and coordinate information within the organization and with regional agencies.
