FYI: Classic film series starts tonight.

Everett First Presbyterian Church offers its Reel World Cinema Series at 6 tonight with “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” at 2936 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.

Other films include “The Hustler,” Feb. 13; “Hud,” Feb. 27; “Hombre,” March 13 and “Cool Hand Luke,” March 27.

It’s free, and a light supper is served.

Salmon program offered in Coupeville

The Island County Historical Museum offers “The Secret Life of Salmon” Saturday.

It’s planned for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 908 NW Alexander St., Coupeville.

The program includes storytelling, music, a showing of the film “Shadow of the Salmon,” and children’s activities. Swinomish and Samish tribal members plan to display their artwork.

Grant Kirby, a member of the Northwest Indian Fishing Commission, and representatives from the Orca Network, Whidbey Watershed and other experts plan to talk about salmon-recovery efforts and the significance of salmon in native culture.

The cost is $8 per person or $20 for a family of three; $2 for additional members. Admission is free for kids under 5.

Applications due today in Marysville

The Marysville School District is accepting applications from families interested in enrolling their students in the Highly Capable program for the 2009-10 school year. Applications are due today.

The Highly Capable program is for students in second through eighth grades. The program is based at Pinewood Elementary and at each of the district’s three middle schools.

Students must go through the district’s application and assessment process in order to be considered for the program. Applications are available online, in school offices and at the district office.
