Several groups of veterans, along with the Elks and Eagles, are joining forces to raise money to fix or replace headstones recently damaged by vandals at Evergreen Cemetery in Everett.
The damage was estimated at $12,000, July 16 or 17.
Donations may be made to any First Heritage Bank branch, for the Fund for Vandalized Veterans’ Graves.
African orphanage director tells story
Tyler Anderson, medical director of Rafiki Orphan Village Uganda, offers a “Doc Talk” at 6 p.m. Thursday at Providence Everett Medical Center, Colby Campus, Rainier Room, 1330 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.
A light dinner is planned.
Anderson and his family recently returned from a two-year trip to Uganda, where they worked with orphans. Anderson plans to provide a presentation with first-hand information about what it’s like to work in Africa at a medical outreach clinic.

Arts of the Terrace deadline extended
Mountlake Terrace Arts Commission seeks paintings, prints, drawings, miniatures, calligraphy, photographs and three-Âdimensional works for its 30th annual juried art show. Entries are due Aug. 30.
The 30th annual Arts of the Terrace show is planned for Sept. 27 through Oct. 4 at the Mountlake Terrace Library.
There is more than $3,000 in cash awards and art merchandise available this year.
Artists should submit entries as digital photos, saved to a CD, and mailed with the entry fee of $10 per piece with a limit of three entries per category to Friends of the Arts, 5303 228th St. SW, Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043.

Paving to limit Highway 526 ramps
State Transportation crews are closing as many as eight onramps and offramps on Highway 526 in south Everett for paving through Thursday and again Monday through Aug. 7.
Watch for detours and follow the signs.
